Homosassa runs along the Homosassa River, from the wildlife state park at the upper end down to the stilt houses out at the river mouth. Roofing here splits cleanly in two. On the river you have older waterfront cottages and stilt homes, frequently with low-slope sections, porch roofs, and additions built on over the years. Inland, newer subdivisions give you conventional shingle roofs of similar age and pitch. Same zip codes, very different work. The river houses take salt air and open wind; the inland homes take heat, rain, and tree debris but not the same corrosion load.

Low slope is the part people underestimate. Shingles need pitch to shed, and a porch or addition roof laid at a shallow angle will hold water at every obstruction until it finds a seam. On the stilt homes that problem sits above living space with very little room to work, and the framing is often light. We look at slope, at how the low section ties into the steeper one, and at whether the covering was ever right for that pitch in the first place. Getting that transition detail correct usually does more for the house than a premium shingle would.
